That Wool Eater I Mentioned

I Can Crochet

In my cupcake post, I mentioned that I might try my hand at Sarah London’s Wool Eater Blanket. As you can see, in between baking batches of sultana and cinnamon bread for breakfasts, trying my hand at homebaked hot cross buns, hospital visits, running and {inadequately} looking after my family … I have made time each evening for a few hooky moments before bedtime.

I love the way this blanket is shaping up, it is using lots of yarn (as promised) and is really helping me to get to grips with hooking action and how best to hold my yarn/hook etc. I actually prefer the ‘back’ of the pattern I think, but we shall see. This will almost certainly be one of those ongoing projects as the primary aim is to bust some of these inherited acrylics.
Not being a massive fan of baby colours, I was thrilled to see what happened with the pastel yellow when I teamed it with the salvaged leftovers of a ball of chocolate brown, and then again with the rose pink. Somehow, those pukey pastels take on a whole new dimension when they get mixed in the right way.
I can name the donor of each ball or remains of a ball so far, and in some cases I know what else was created before I got my hands on the leftovers. This blanket may end up being quite a special blanket, for a sentimental old fool.

Take a look at the Flickr group to see how others have approached this blanket, it is quite inspirational.

I like this pattern. Very neat to do with left over yarn!
