Craftwise, this week … I have mostly been crocheting rows on the camping blanket. With it only being a DC (treble in UK crochet) all the way along a row, I don’t have to concentrate at all and am therefore finding it to be a great wind down activity at the end of a working day. I keep finding the children huddled under it in the mornings, even though it is only about half of its finished size. I really love that they are already wanting to use it (though I have to confess, I am not that happy about sharing it). It really will serve to further beautify our camping experience. Even on a wet day, that blanket is going to be put to good use reminding me of how beautiful the colours of the South Coast of the UK are, whatever the weather.
On Wednesday, the third edition of Mollie Makes landed on my welcome mat. As a subscriber I was privileged to receive it the day before it hit the shops. I was thrilled to see that one of my first pieces on constructive feedback had already been implemented. They have a regular ‘Mollie Loves’ feature which has so far featured ruffles and lace. I love this feature, but felt it could go further with an idea of how to use the embellishment that ‘Mollie Loves’ or, in the case of the lace, have a list of places you could try your hand at lacemaking. Something of that ilk. Well, the Mollie Makes team did themselves proud this issue with their ‘Mollie Loves’ feature focusing on fringing, and a full page overleaf with a little t-shirt upcycle to a fringed cowl. Brilliant.
I shall be making the felt flower rings from the front cover, I love having a tiny, portable craft with me so I have popped it into my work bag for those occasions when I turn up to the playground early, or find myself at a loose end on a train.
I’ll also be trying my hand at the crocheted flowers inside the mag, I will have some odds and ends from this blanket that will lend themselves very well to the project. Who knows, they may even end up embellishing the blanket itself?
Enough about Mollie Makes, go buy your own sunshiny copy … you won’t regret it.
Now, a working week doesn’t lend itself well to me being the catering queen that my family have come to know and love, but with our abundance of home-grown courgettes and a fridge/larder of basics, I have managed to whip up homemade meals for the majority of the week.
And while we’re loosely on the subject of work, there have been further developments over the course of the week. At this stage, I would only like to say that I have been very productive with SSJ and that I met with the ‘Operations Overlord’ of The Lounges. But I do hope to be able to share something more concrete with you lovely people by the time I next blog.
